Lacrime di coccodrillo
With the collection titled Crocodile Tears (Lacrime di Coccodrillo), SSHEENA delivers a profound and provocative reflection on the contemporary tendency to take refuge in nostalgia. The concept explores the social and cultural paradox of constantly longing for the past, ultimately closing oneself off to the opportunities of the present and the vision of the future.
Through this narrative, SSHEENA conducts a lucid analysis of the current fashion system, which often tends to celebrate and promote already acclaimed heritage brands at the expense of new talents and emerging voices.
The collection comes to life through the collision of two seemingly irreconcilable worlds: on one side, sartorial rigor alongside sculpted, volumetric silhouettes that evoke the classic elegance of 1960s Dior haute couture; on the other, the raw, rebellious, and irreverent attitude of punk subcultures tied to the visual imagery of the Ramones.
This stylistic opposition translates into a surreal, highly theatrical visual landscape. The line’s most formal section is presented on a grotesque stage reminiscent of the dreamy, decadent aesthetic of a traveling circus. Serving as a counterweight to this staging—positioned in the unexpected role of spectators—are young boys immersed in the warmth of a pink-duned desert: relaxed, authentic figures intent on enjoying life in the present moment.
This deliberately ambiguous overlap of roles subverts traditional viewing dynamics, posing a key question about the contemporary fashion experience: who is truly the performer on stage, and who is the actual audience?
